Notification preferences
Choose how you receive in-app and email notifications, and understand the transactional emails WAQAF always sends.
WAQAF can let you know when something happens that involves you — a new release, or a recurring pledge that needs attention. This page is where you decide how you hear about each of those: as an in-app notification, as an email, or both. These settings are personal to you and don't change anything for your colleagues.
There's an important distinction to keep in mind. The toggles here cover the optional, informational notifications. They do not switch off the essential transactional emails — receipts, invitations, approval requests and the like — that WAQAF sends to keep the organisation running. More on those at the end.
Who can do this. Anyone with a WAQAF account. Notification preferences are part of your personal account, so you don't need any particular role — every signed-in member can manage their own. They only ever affect what you receive.
Where to find it. Account → Notifications (the settings area for your own account, not your organisation).
Set your preferences
Open your notification settings
From the account settings menu, choose Notifications. You'll see a single General section with a small table of notification types.
Read the table
Each row is a kind of notification, and each has two switches:
- In-app — whether it appears in the notification bell at the top of the dashboard.
- Email — whether WAQAF also emails it to you.
The two types you can control are:
- App updates — news about new features and improvements in WAQAF.
- Recurring pledge at risk — a heads-up when a recurring pledge looks like it may lapse or has missed a payment, so someone can follow it up.
Toggle a channel on or off
Everything is on by default. Click a switch to turn that channel off for that notification type; click it again to turn it back on. There's no separate Save button — each switch saves on its own the moment you flip it.
So if you'd rather see app updates only in the bell and not in your inbox, turn that row's Email switch off and leave In-app on.
WAQAF only stores the channels you've switched off. Anything you haven't touched stays enabled. That's why a brand-new account, or a type that's been added since you last looked, arrives already turned on.
Where in-app notifications appear
When an in-app notification is enabled, it shows up under the bell icon in the top navigation bar, with a small count of unread items. Open it to read your recent notifications and to mark them as read — individually or all at once. Turning a type's In-app switch off simply stops new ones of that type from appearing there.
About the emails WAQAF always sends
The preferences above govern the optional notifications. Separately, WAQAF sends transactional emails — the messages that carry out the actual work of the platform. These are tied to a specific event and a specific recipient, so they're sent regardless of the toggles on this page. They include:
- Donation receipts sent to donors after a gift.
- Organisation invitations when someone is invited to join your organisation.
- Expense approval requests sent to the next approver in a payment-voucher workflow.
- Paid-voucher receipts and signed-copy emails for vouchers.
- Recurring-pledge reminders to donors.
- Sign-in and account emails — magic links, email verification, password reset.
You can't switch these off from this page — they're part of how the platform operates, not personal preferences. Many of them go to donors and external recipients, not to you, so your settings here have no bearing on whether a donor receives their receipt.
Your organisation can also control some finance-related emails (for example, whether a paid voucher emails its recipient) from the organisation's settings, under its own Notifications section. That's an organisation-wide choice made by someone with the right finance role — separate from the personal preferences described here.
